Jonas Salk explored his options in the medical field, and encountered the challenge of developing a poliomyelitis vaccine due to the severe outbreak of the threatening disease. He encountered success and when the announcement that the first successful poliomyelitis vaccine was made in 1955, the world was  changed for the better.
